KEY HOPEFUL OF WENTZEL STAY

Leeds Carnegie director of rugby Andy Key has said that he is hoping that Marco Wentzel will stay with the club. The second-row is one of 15 Leeds players out of contract this summer and is the target of Gloucester, amongst other sides.

Key told BBC Radio Leeds: “Marco has expressed openly he loves it here.

“When the time is right I’m confident Marco will make the right decision for Marco. We are pretty confident that decision will be to stay at Leeds.”

FREER CLOSE TO RETURN

Scott Freer has returned from his injury and Leeds will certainly be welcome him back. The hooker, 21, has only just returned from a year out due to knee reconstruction surgery.

With Andy Titterrell out for the season, Freer will be needed when Steve Thompson goes on Six Nations duty.

Director of rugby Andy Key told BBC Radio Leeds: “He has played a few games and has got himself close to what he was before the injury.”

Academy product Freer has represented England at U18 and U19 level and was expected to feature in the first team last season before his serious injury.
