Leeds Carnegie Sign Doncaster Duo

RFU Championship side Leeds Carnegie have raided fellow Yorkshire based side and their RFU Championship rivals the Doncaster Knights and have signed centre pairing Freddie Burdon and Ollie Goss to bolster their defensive lineup ahead of next season’s Championship as they aim to bounce back into the Aviva Premiership.

Goss has signed a two year contract with The Carnegie, having impressed the scouts at Leeds with his performance for The Knights over the last two seasons. The 24 year old can play at the back but also as a scrum half as well as on the wing and that makes him a very versatile option for the side.

Moreover, Goss has blistering pace as well as the experience of playing in the Championship for two seasons and will definitely add some solidity to the weak backline of Leeds. Goss is a product of bath Rugby’s famous academy from where he made the move to The Knights.

On the other hand, the 22 year old Burdon has been given a one year contract with Leeds Carnegie as he switches sides after just one season with the Doncaster Knights. He is a product of the academy at Newcastle Falcons for which he played for a short time before going off to Cambridge to study Chemistry at Cambridge University and holds a first class honors certificate. He had a trial with Aviva Premiership side Gloucester Rugby and also played for the HFW Whalers in the Middlesex Sevens before moving to The Knights.

According to Diccon Edwards, the head coach of Leeds Carnegie, the club has signed two players with unbelievable talent and can be off immense service to the club in the long run as they aim to return to the top flight and consolidate their position in the Aviva Premiership in the coming years.
